Whilst I was driving the other day it occurred to me that if I thought about the process of driving then my brain becomes confused and I suddenly think I can’t do it. The operation of driving has become second nature to me and now it is all done on auto-pilot.
The same goes for walking. If you are walking down the street and you start to think about how one foot goes in front of the other you can get confused and trip over your own feet. It’s all second nature and we don’t have to overthink these things and if you do it gets too much.
This is very much the same for many other things.
I have a tendency to overthink things, or at least I did in the past. I have learnt to manage my anxious brain slightly better than I have before.
You need to find a harmonious balance, don’t overthink but don’t get stuck on autopilot.
Being on autopilot is great when we’re doing the mundane things like walking and driving but we end up forgetting to switch auto off and regaining control of our minds. We just go through the motions for the rest of the day and that’s just not good.
There’s so many things you’re missing if you’re whizzing around and not looking at what’s right in front of you.
This is when things start going wrong.
Look at the things you do in your every day that don’t require you to think about doing them. Such as walking, driving, brushing your teeth. Getting ready for work in the morning, eating breakfast.
You can use these times as a way to focus and centre your mind. Maybe not so much with the driving as it’s probably best to concentrate on the road.
When you’re having your breakfast for instance don’t just wolf it down, really enjoy it. Don’t spend that time flying off in to your thoughts about how many things you have to do that day because then before you have even left the house you’re wound up and stressed. Take one task at a time and only do what you can manage.
I tend to start a task and if I get stuck I start getting stressed and think I can’t do it, then I start thinking negatively and before you know it the whole world has ended!
Take your time, everything that needs to get done will get done and those things that don’t get done can wait until tomorrow.
Don’t ever let anyone make you think you’re not good enough.
Follow your dreams right now! Don’t wait until tomorrow,
next week, next year. Stop planning, start doing 🙂
Be happy and keep smiling 😀
