There are many horror stories surrounding dating sites, such as when my friend went on a first date with a bloke and his “ex” turned up and poured a pint over his head, not so much horror I suppose but it’s definitely not a good first impression and I’m sure there are lots of terrible tales out there.
It just can’t be helped, there will always be weird people out there whether you meet them in the pub or online.
However there are ways to filter out the rejects, at least online. For a start if you’re using a free dating app/site then you’re going to get every Tom, Dick, Harry, Mary, Jane and Sally messaging you because, duh, it’s free.
If all you’re looking for are one nights stands and meaningless sex then things like Tinder, PoF, Zoosk and LoveThing are right up your street.
If you’re ready to settle down and you’re searching for ‘the one’, I suggest you cough up the cash and opt for eHarmony, Match.com or Elite Singles to name a few. There are lots more out there though.
I personally recommend Match.com as that is where I met my handsome man.
I remember the first photo I saw of him, dressed as a Jedi Knight, lightsaber in hand and a lollipop in his mouth. Who wouldn’t fall in love with that?
I had had an account with Match.com a few years previously and the two “dates” that had accumulated from that time round were obviously nothing special. The first of which was supposed to be a quick lunchtime drink, I had planned to meet the guy at 12:30 lunchtime and hoped to be home for around 3 ish to finish off some assignments I had for Uni. It somehow turned in to a 10 hour drinking session and accidentally leaving a restaurant without paying…oops.
The second one was a guy who loved nothing more than to talk about himself, how much money he had and also the fact that he let his 7 year old daughter drink wine in order to educate her. I don’t have a problem with allowing children to taste alcohol but if you keep bringing up the subject it’s slightly worrying.
Suffice it to say neither of these people were seen again. I mean they weren’t seen by me, they were probably seen by other people, I didn’t murder them for stealing food and plying their daughter with wine!
After these two slight failures I made the decision to not settle for anyone that didn’t live up to my ‘perfect list’. The list went something like this…
Booth from ‘Bones’ (TV series)
Lane from ‘Better off Dead’ (Film)
Rodney from ‘Only Fools and Horses’
Marty from ‘Back to the Future’
Jack Driscoll from ‘King Kong’
I think that was it… I liked bits of each of their personalities, I didn’t want him to look like bits of them, that would be weird.
I believe that Chris made the first contact, although he’ll have you believe it was me, I may have sent him a cheeky wink, who knows…
It soon became apparent (pretty much on the first date) that I had met the man of my dreams and not the ‘perfect list’. Chris created a whole new list that was just his and he probably didn’t even know it. He was everything I didn’t know I wanted and continues to be more ♥
Don’t ever let anyone make you think you’re not good enough.
Follow your dreams right now! Don’t wait until tomorrow,
next week, next year. Stop planning, start doing 🙂
Be happy and keep smiling 🙂
