Packing list for Yorkshire Three Peaks

Christopher, my 13 year old son, decided that he wanted to take on the challenge of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. I think the only reason he decided this is because he saw the bag of snacks my Mum and I had for our walk in the Peak District and he wanted jelly Babies.

I have asked Christopher a few times over the last few years if he would like to do the Three peaks and he has always said no, so when he asked me if he could do it I was quick to set a date. I also suggested that he should maybe do this as a sponsored event, that way it’s harder to back out!

He chose the mental health charity Mind and for the walk to be in memory of his Uncle Colin. Click the blue writing to sponsor him πŸ™‚

I have tried to drill in to Christopher how gruelling this walk can be and how you need to be well prepared. he accompanied the Veteran Boot Breakers on a 16 mile hike in the Peak District a few weeks ago and he actually loved it, so that’s a good sign!

I thought I would share with you a list of things that I always carry with me when we’re embarking on a rather long walk.

  • Cm’s inhaler
  • Survival bag
  • Jelly babies
  • Snacks – sandwiches, chocolate, cereal bars, apples.
  • Water
  • Spare clothes (best to leave these in the car though in case your bag contents get wet.)
  • Gloves
  • Buff, hat or scarf
  • Waterproof coat
  • Hiking pole (A lifesaver if you have bad knees or  bad hips)
  • Change – money
  • Torch
  • Whistle
  • Energy tablets
  • Mobile phone
  • Tissues
  • Pen knife
  • Map
  • First aid kit

Here’s my hiking bag, the items pictured live in this bag, all ready and waiting just in case.

These are added extras that are rarely used but you just never know when you might need a Shee-Wee!
