A few months ago I met Dawn Singh in a group on Facebook and she asked if I’d like to attend the UK Indie Lit Fest as a guest blogger. Of course I would. A chance to promote myself and meet some like minded authors. If I’m completely honest events such as this scare the bejesus out of me, as a self confessed introvert this is my worst nightmare.
I am not about to let that stop me though. I’m all about facing my fears these days 🙂
The event was being held at Kala Sangam in Bradford, a beautiful building built in 1886, formerly Bradford’s General Post Office. The venue is now an arts centre, bringing together arts and cultures from all over Bradford.
Kala – meaning arts and Sangam – ‘a meeting point which reflects the coming together of people through artistic ventures.’ – http://www.kalasangam.org/about-us/about-kala-sangam/
In it’s first year the UK Indie Lit Fest had 26 attending authors and nearly 100 visitors, in it’s second year it’s almost doubled with 44 attending authors and over 300 people turning up to check out the friendliest group of authors I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.
The festival kicked off at 10 am and was off to a great start, bustling from the beginning with such a wonderful collection of book genres and some beautifully friendly authors.
With over 40 authors from all over the country and all from different walks of life, with an array of cultural backgrounds there was something for everyone, from Sci-Fi and horror to romance and children’s books.
We had workshops galore with how to create characters, advice on getting published, how to grab the readers attention from the start and how to keep them interested. There were also some beautiful readings from many of the authors with excerpts from their stories and poetry.
All in all I would say the day was a fantastic success and I have it on good authority that plans are already under way for next years! If you’d like to check out the attending authors you will find them in the links below 😉

How truly wonderful to have the lovely blogger Kate do a special write up of this years #UKIndieLitFest held at Kala Sangam in Bradford, on Saturday 26th August 2017.
Kate managed to overcome her fear of putting herself first and managed to read some of her wonderful poetry in one of our afternoon workshops. It did help that the #IndieArmy are like one big happy family and she was welcomed with open arms.
Thank you Kate for a wonderful blog review and excellent images.
Regards Su aka Rose English 🙂
Thank you for your kind words 🙂 It was a brilliant day and I can’t wait for next year!
