I double dare you
What is actually stopping you from doing that thing that you want to do? The big thing or the little thing.
Do you want a promotion, a pay rise?
Are you scared to send that text, email, make that phone call because you think the answer will be no?
It’s not the be all and end all is it?
Life will still go on.
Is it the rejection you fear? In all honesty what is the worst that can happen?
I spent a good part of my day today fretting over sending an email. An email.
It didn’t even have particularly scary content. In fact it was rather pleasant and friendly.
It wasn’t the email that scared me though, that’s the easy part. Write it, send it, done.
It’s the bit afterwards. The waiting. In fact even then when I received a reply, less than 10 minutes later, I was scared to open it!
What on earth is that about? Was I afraid of the potential rejection or was I scared of what might happen if the reply was positive?
I believe it to be a bit of both. My mind was torn, I would have been disappointed if the response was negative and excited but slightly nervous if it was positive. It turns out the answer, for now, was maybe, so I was worried for nothing.
I took the chance though. I love the saying “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door”. Get out there and make your own choices and decisions. Be the person that they can’t say no to.
And even if they do say no, that’s fine too. That direction just wasn’t meant to be, either for now or forever, that all depends on the situation.
Nerves are good, they build adrenalin, which can be helpful at certain times. It can propel you to do things you wouldn’t usually do. When you are prepared for either outcome things start to become a lot easier.
If you ask and the answer is no, so what, move on, try again another time. If you ask and the answer is yes, that’s excellent, now deal with what comes next. Don’t fret over the answer whilst you’re asking the question. Ask with confidence then just sit back and relax.
You can practice the asking as many times as you like too, that way, especially if it’s a face to face question, you’ll sound relaxed and confident when you’re saying it. I think it is portrayed through emails too sometimes. We’ve all received emails that are just ‘copy and paste’ bulls**t. Make yours stand out, a well penned email can make all the difference.
Good luck x
Don’t ever let anyone make you think you’re not good enough.
Follow your dreams right now! Don’t wait until tomorrow,
next week, next year. Stop planning, start doing 🙂

The random things we torture ourselves about! It’s always easier to do the thing, and embrace the good. When will we learn? lol
