I am so fed up of being told what to do, who to follow, how to raise your social following by 10,000 a day, how to lose 6 stone in an hour.
“I went from being a total jobless, drug addict to earning £70,000 a day, overnight”
Erm… no, you didn’t.
I follow too many fake people on Facebook and it has started to stress me out. The amount of time I spend trawling through my news-feed to find some actual resemblance of my ‘real life’ is stupid.
Everyone and their dog has suddenly become an expert in everything!
“Oh you blog/write/sing/craft/eat food? I know THE person you MUST follow to find THE best way to blog/write/sing/craft/eat food…”
This doesn’t mean that everyone who has ever recommended someone or something to me has been pointless. I have been given some excellent guidance by extremely knowledgeable people and I am eternally grateful.
There are, however, some utterly useless, time wasters out there too.
You will already have some of these people on at least one of your social media platforms or you will have seen an ad that they feature in.
*Cue cheesiest grin, sickly sweet, cutesy voice and over exaggerated head tilting*
“Hi, do you want your life to be magically amazing and pink and sparkly. Maximum results with zero effort? I did it in just one day.”
“Download my extortionately priced online course and I’ll tell you my closely guarded secrets about how to earn a gazillion dollars in an hour”
(The secret is that people are paying them for the extortionately priced ‘closely guarded secrets’)
Oops…now you don’t need to buy it!
There are some truly wonderful people out there who are willing to give you advice and information for free!
The biggest “secret” of all is that you will not find the answer to whatever you are looking for in one place. It’s going to be a mixture of people, places, sudden inspirations, relaxing moments in the bath, captured ‘zen’ up a mountain or in a field.
Find a helpful group/page on Facebook that gives you good quality content, you don’t have to follow every single person who may be relevant to your field. Also if you’re sick of people telling you how wonderful their life is now that they only drink water and eat only half an apple a day, you can un-follow them…
“Try my new detox, cleanse and earn yourself a free weeks stay in hospital. I’ve cut out sugar, salt, wheat, dairy, carbs, gluten, meat and anything green or orangey… I’ve lost 4 stone in a week”!
Well no s**t Sherlock….
“I drink nothing but juice and I’ve dropped 7 dress sizes”
Yes and when you go back to eating normal food you can pile all the weight back on again…
I may have gone slightly off topic here but people selling useless s**t to people really winds me up.
Do what makes you happy, if you don’t like the way things are done, change it. Make it your own. Blogging, vlogging and social media presence advice, is just that, it’s advice. It’s not the law.
If something is working for you, don’t change it just because ‘Miss Mega Bucks’ says you should.
The answer is to do things your way, or not, whatever!
Don’t ever let anyone make you think you’re not good enough.
Follow your dreams right now! Don’t wait until tomorrow,
next week, next year. Stop planning, start doing 🙂
Be happy and keep smiling 🙂
(or don’t, I’m not the boss of you)
My cousin called me the other day to let me know that she was selling some kind of powdered cactus super fruit dust. “It clears your skin, and speeds up your metabolism, it’s just great!” ”
“how long have you been using it?” I asked
“Oh, it hasn’t come in the mail yet”
“…..”
Its tough because everyone needs money, everyone wants to feel like they have something to offer, people want to help other people and seem wise. So I get the motivations….its just……exhausting
Yep I agree with the needing money and the motivations. However there are many people who talk a load of bollocks too 😂 xx
