“What’s your USP?”…

In my very early days of serious blogging I was chatting to a lady about my blog and she asked to see it.

I gave her my site address and she had a quick look.

She asked me,

“What’s your USP?”

USP wasn’t a term I was familiar with so I drew a blank.

“Your unique selling point. What is it?”

“Oh well, I don’t know. Me, I suppose”

Well apparently that wasn’t a good enough answer for this lady who actually had no influence on me or my blog… To be perfectly honest though I think it was the best answer I could have given.

I had a similar experience when I auditioned for a record producer.

After singing a few songs for him and doing a couple of recordings we were having a general chat and he asked me ‘who do I most aspired to be like?’, ‘who would I compare myself to?’, ‘which artist in the charts right now do I want to be like?’.

Well what sort of dumb-ass question is that?

I don’t want to be like any of them, I want to be me.

What’s so wrong with me?

Nothing, that’s what!

There is nothing wrong with me. I’m my own unique person and that’s who I aspire to be, myself, constantly developing and changing but ultimately being myself.

Why would I want to be another churned out wannabe?

Why do I want to be exactly like someone else?

I wouldn’t and neither should you.

It’s great to be influenced by others, of course it is. The world would have come to a complete standstill by now if we weren’t influenced by the works, styles and ideas of others.

You should be comfortable enough in your own skin to be able to shout from the rooftops,

This is me! I’m my own person. I am my own unique selling point.

Nobody is better at being me, than me.

If you’re copying someone else then how on earth will you find your own USP?

Why aren’t I allowed to just be me?

I am allowed and that is what I do. I do all that I am doing in my own way for my own reasons.

I’m not trying to become someone else or achieve the successes of other people.

I’m being me. That’s all I want be because to be perfectly honest I love who I am and I am awesome, I say that with confidence, not arrogance.

I am more than aware of my flaws, I just accept them and realise that I can still have my own unique selling point no matter how disjointed I may be, after all isn’t that the whole point? If it’s exactly the same as everyone else’s then it’s not unique…

Don’t ever let anyone make you think you’re not good enough.

Follow your dreams right now! Don’t wait until tomorrow,

next week, next year. Stop planning, start doing 🙂

Be happy, keep smiling and just be you 😉

I write, therefore I am. I spend my days writing, wondering what to write, being creative and generally being awesome 😊 Welcome to my world, won't you come on in? xx
