The title has nothing to do with what I’m saying here, I just liked that title.
I made a decision in November that January would be a month of rest for me.
I’ve been very stressed, tired and rushed off my feet. I knew December would be a busy one, when isn’t it? And so I promised myself that under no circumstances would I make any concrete plans for January.
It’s an open month, chilled out, nothing stressful.
I actually find this in itself to be stressful! I don’t know how to do nothing. I’m really rubbish at it. (Okay so I did manage an entire day of binge watching Black Mirror but I felt really guilty about it afterwards.)
I need to always be doing something otherwise I get bored, irritable, I eat more. It actually hurts to sit for prolonged periods of time, plus there’s always the guilt.
I need to relax, I know I do, I don’t really know how. I think maybe I need to get some drugs involved, prescription of course.
I’m excellent at making plans about all the different ways I’m going to make more time for myself, then I just get stressed for not actually being able to find the time. So instead, I’ll just make a list of all the things I could do to relax and then cry in to my cup of tea over the fact that I don’t have time and I can’t handle the feelings of guilt and how I’m just going to steal Valium from my Dad, watch ‘Friends’ and eat stupid single bar Twirls because that’s all I’m worthy of.
Why? Why are they even sold as single bars? Twirls are not a single bar chocolate. Surely if they’re going to sell them as single bars it should be in even numbers..? I’m totally appalled and saddened. You either have to eat 5 and then want another single Twirl so you have to buy another pack or you have to do the unthinkable and give a Twirl to someone else. Shame on you Cadbury! You make me sick, literally.
Feel free to enjoy my list of relaxing things, because someone should…
- Treat yourself to a spa day. (Don’t tell me you can’t afford it, stick it on your credit card, you’re going to die soon anyway.)
- Go for a walk.
- Have a superior bath, candles, bubbles, plinky plonky music. (This never, ever works for me, I spend ten minutes in the bath. I only get one because it’s easier to shave my legs in the bath, then I’m bored and get a shower afterwards anyway. Total waste of time and water and not relaxing in the slightest.)
- Order a takeaway.
- Watch your favourite movie.
- Release yourself from all responsibilities for a whole day.
- Randomly re-decorate a room.
- Go to an animal rescue centre and cuddle all the dogs!
I could go on and on with this list. There are hundreds of different things that we choose to do to relax. I’ve forgotten what it actually feels like so I obviously need to do some work on chilling the f**k out.
So…there we have it, another post where I started out telling you about something and completely trailed off in to somewhere new. Basically what I think I’m saying is that January is my hibernation month and when February rears its beautiful head I’m going to t**t it with my determination and productivity stick!
Don’t ever let anyone make you think you’re not good enough.
Follow your dreams right now! Don’t wait until tomorrow,
next week, next year. Stop planning, start doing 🙂
