Do you WANT goals?

Or do you just want to live your life?

Everywhere I look these days it’s all,

#goals

what are your goals?

Set your goals!

Achieve your goals!

Live your dreams!

Dreams! Goals! Dreams! Goals! Argh!

Now, while I love how positive this is and I think it is important to have goals, to have something to work towards, it shouldn’t be the be all and end all.

Being focused is good but you don’t want to be so focused on one thing for so long that you forget to look around and see what else is going on. You could be missing out on so many other opportunities!

I have been setting myself goals for the last few years and I’ve been achieving them (mostly).

However, when I take a moment and look back on the things I have achieved, many of them weren’t even on my radar. They just came along unintentionally.

Publishing my books is certainly high on my list of achievements and they were on my “goals list” but in the last year I have played the lead in panto, given a talk at a mental health event, attended a literature festival as an author and now I’m the screenwriter for a short film!

I didn’t plan for any of this, I didn’t set any of these things as my goals.

What I did do was put myself forward, put myself out there and threw myself out of my comfort zone and now I am so happy with the things going on in my life.

I will always have things I want to achieve and goals I want to work towards but I won’t let them take over my life.

I cannot just have one thing going on because what happens when I get stuck on that thing and it starts to annoy me and I don’t know where to turn to get away from it for a while? Is this where you’re supposed to have relaxing things?

It’s like when people say you shouldn’t have a plan B because that means you’re just expecting plan A to fail… no, it means I’m being smart and I know that things don’t always go to plan. And when they don’t go to plan I have another plan ready and waiting. So don’t come at me thinking you’re all smart and worthy.

I have plan A, B, C, D, E and F and not because I don’t I have faith in plans A – E but because I know what life can throw at you and sometimes it’s not pretty and sometimes it ruins your life. So you do whatever you need to do and if that means having no goals, then so be it, if that means having 100 backup plans, that’s great!

I write, therefore I am. I spend my days writing, wondering what to write, being creative and generally being awesome 😊 Welcome to my world, won't you come on in? xx
