We’re not getting married!

So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, every day. You and me… every day.” Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook.

I Googled ‘marriage quotes’ and that ⬆ was one of the first ones I came across. I love it, it’s honest, straight to the point, romantic and sweet. And although it comes up in the ‘marriage quote’ results, it does not have to apply solely to married couples.

I was under the misconception that our relationship was perfect because we never argued or fell out, unfortunately, that meant that nothing ever got talked about or discussed. These things were never major incidents, nothing huge or terrible but the little things build up over time and eventually they will become one big thing! And they did and it broke our relationship.

Luckily I came to the realisation that my life well and truly sucked without him.

And now here we are… in our glorious life. Being in love and being completely open and honest with each other. It’s quite beautiful.

And with it comes the age-old question from friends and family… “When are you getting married?”

Well, we’re not!

But it’s okay, that doesn’t make our relationship any less meaningful, actually the fact that we have a mortgage together means more to me than a marriage certificate. I have in the past, sold a house and been divorced so I know which contract was the easiest to leave!

Anywho! We are having a small celebration of our togetherness which has been adequately named ‘We’re not getting married’. It’s not a wedding, it’s nothing like a wedding. Personally, I think weddings are an unnecessary extravagance and we’d much rather spend that money on the rest of our lives. I’m not judging those who have a huge wedding, you can do what you like with your money, I’m just putting my point across.

Our celebration is going to be a gathering of our close family and friends eating food and being awesome! Nothing is wedding themed, there’s no dress, no gifts, (there will be cake but it’ll be way better than a wedding cake!) There’s no ceremony. Just a bunch of awesome people celebrating mine and Chris’ life together.

  1. As always I love your writing, your compassion and your style. The way you capture moments holistically down on paper is nothing short of inspiring and encouraging. Keep writing.

    I am a firm fan 💕💕
