What makes you, you?

Earlier this week I attended the funeral of a lady whom I had never met. I was there to accompany my Mum, I don’t just randomly turn up at strangers funerals. I must admit I was rather perturbed by the prospect of sharing this personal experience with people who before that day, I had never met and who were obviously there to say goodbye to their loved one, who again, I had never met. The service was beautiful, it took place at Tarn Moor Memorial Woodland where instead of headstones and graves they plant trees in … Continue reading What makes you, you?

“What’s your USP?”…

In my very early days of serious blogging I was chatting to a lady about my blog and she asked to see it. I gave her my site address and she had a quick look. She asked me, “What’s your USP?” USP wasn’t a term I was familiar with so I drew a blank. “Your unique selling point. What is it?” “Oh well, I don’t know. Me, I suppose” Well apparently that wasn’t a good enough answer for this lady who actually had no influence on me or my blog… To be perfectly honest though I think it was … Continue reading “What’s your USP?”…

Is the meaning of life really 42?

I’m sorry to disappoint you all but there is no meaning to our lives. There is no ultimate goal. We are here as a product of circumstance and coincidence. We weren’t placed here for a higher purpose or created for a deities pleasure. What reason would there be for that to happen? Why would someone go to all that trouble?   The best explanation for the meaning to life, the Universe and everything that I have ever been given is 42. When I first watched Hitch Hikers Guide it was just a funny thing I watched with … Continue reading Is the meaning of life really 42?

House to Home

I guarantee that there are at least 10 things in your home right now that you could discard, that you don’t use, you don’t like or has been sat in a cupboard for so long you’d forgotten you had and you’ve not even missed it. Why are you hoarding these things? Are they making you happy? When you look at your bookcase full of books you’ve already read or will never read, does it fill you with joy or does it stress you out because you don’t have time to read all of those wonderful books? Imagine all … Continue reading House to Home

Make it a good dash

The Dash – Written by Linda Ellis     I recently came across this poem by Linda Ellis and it made me think. It made me think about how my life will be remembered, how it will be represented or how anyone’s life is represented and remembered. On your gravestone it will read:                          In loving memory of                                     [Insert name here]                    … Continue reading Make it a good dash

How To Survive…Zombies

Here is my collection of survival tips from the people who were there, eye-witness accounts from the survivors… “You weren’t there man!” This blog post actually incited a panic attack…so enjoy.   Get lots and lots of stabby weapons… Acquire a big, giant off-road vehicle, suitable for driving over corpses. Kill the people who suggest going to police stations, hospitals etc. These people will only continue to make stupid suggestions. They’re better off dead now. Or keep them around to kill later for food. Ditch the friends you have now and replace them with people like Ray Mears … Continue reading How To Survive…Zombies

What do I want to do?

Well we all already know that I want to do everything! Again this is one of those moments where I remember David Allen; “You can do anything, not everything” However, just for the sake of it I thought I’d write a few of those things down that I think about doing. Some of which I will do, probably pretty soon. Some of them might prove to be difficult, that’s no reason to not do them, they’ll just take longer and others are pretty improbable, but not impossible 🙂 Some of these are goals that I have set … Continue reading What do I want to do?

Keeping up with the Jones’

How often are you comparing yourself to others? Do you look at other people and wish you had their hair, their shoes, their money? Do you tell yourself that their children are progressing far quicker than yours? They’ve lost more weight than you? Do you constantly ask why they have everything? How is it fair that they have their dream job, dream house, new car, perfect relationship, well-behaved children… Stop! Stop it right now. I mean it, stop it right this second. Those lives that you see are not perfect. I can assure you that no matter how ‘together’ you … Continue reading Keeping up with the Jones’
